  1. Is this a wild bird? How were you able to hold it? I live in south central Pennsylvania, and we are visited by an indigo bunting once a year in the spring and they do not stay. Is there a way to draw them in to stay longer?

    1. Thanks for your comment on my site.
Yes it’s a wild bird. It had been trapped in a mist net (like a very fine volleyball net) before having a band put on its leg, weighed, measured and then let go.
Indigo Buntings breed across the whole of the eastern half of the US and Canada south of about 45 degrees N. They will almost certainly be around PA in suitable habitat from May to Sept (forest edges, shrubby areas and weedy fields.)
I don’t know if feeders attract them, I don’t think so, there’s plenty of wild food available to them.
In any event they leave for the winter and head to Central America for the winter.
